Providing Assistance to Victims of Natural Disasters in Thailand
Due to its climate, Thailand frequently experiences flooding. In particular, the significant after-effects of the severe flooding that occurred in 2011 and 2012 impacted Thailand. When natural disasters have occurred, to help victims feel more secure and to hasten the recovery process as much as possible Siam Kubota Corporation and Siam Kubota Leasing have been providing various forms of support to both victims and the government.
Thailand has a tropical climate, and flooding is one of the most frequent natural disasters in the nation. The rainy season in Thailand runs from May through October, and increased rainfall between August and October in particular causes frequent flooding due to the heavy rains in the northern and central sections of the nation.
When natural disasters strike Thailand and neighboring countries, Siam Kubota Corporation Co., Ltd. (SKC), which operates in Thailand, conducts a variety of relief activities to assist disaster victims resume their normal lives as quickly as possible.
The severe flooding that occurred in July 2011 greatly exceeded the capacity of flood control measures in Thailand and affected the northern and central regions of the country, as well as the area around the capital, Bangkok. These severe floods persisted until January 2012, and caused extensive damage to the country, leaving over 800 people dead.
At the time of these severe floods, SKC donated tractors and gasoline for transporting people and disaster relief bags to the victims. In October of the same year, SKC donated 100 sets of pumps with diesel engines and 150 sets of pumps with gasoline engines (total value of 5.5 million baht) to the Thai Government for use in draining work. Furthermore, the company has been providing continuous support to flood victims even after the floods subsided by repairing our products and providing support services.
In addition, not only taking action at the time of the 2011 floods, SKC has also donated appropriate numbers of disaster relief bags to flood-affected areas in Thailand and neighboring nations. Through dealers, a total of 7,900 disaster relief bags were distributed to victims in 2020, and 9,700 more sets were similarly distributed in 2021. Furthermore, SKC also conducted large-scale cleanup activities to support flood victims.
In 2022, the company donated 6,900 survival bags to flood victims in Thailand and 400 such bags to victims in Cambodia (total value of 1.875 million baht). In addition to flood victims, in cooperation with the Royal Thai Army and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, 12,000 jackets (total value of 3.264 million baht) were donated to disadvantaged people such as those affected by the cold weather, primarily elderly and low-income residents of northern and northeastern Thailand.
Siam Kubota Leasing Co., Ltd., (SKL) conducts community engagement activities based on ISO 26000 (the international standard for social responsibility for organizations issued by the International Organization for Standardization), and depending on the circumstances provides support to areas affected by natural disasters. When northeastern Thailand was flooded in September 2019, the company donated food, drinking water, medicine and other daily necessities to affected areas. Delivering disaster relief bags to flood victims in five locations in 2021 is an example of how SKC and SKL annually continue to provide assistance to victims of natural disasters on an annual basis.
