Kubota to Discontinue Manufacture and Sale of Rolling-mill Rolls
June 16, 2021
Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director: Yuichi Kitao; hereinafter, “Kubota”) announced today that it has decided to discontinue the manufacture and sale of its rolling-mill rolls, as detailed below.
1. Reasons for Decision
- Kubota began manufacturing rolling-mill rolls in 1918 and has been supplying them for more than a century since then.
- However, market contraction and other adverse conditions surrounding the product have been growing more acute year by year, and aging production facilities are in need of replacing, which requires investment. Taking these factors into account, Kubota determined that it would be difficult to achieve an upturn in business performance going forward, and therefore decided to discontinue the manufacture and sale of the product.
2. Schedule
Kubota will stop receiving orders for rolling-mill rolls at the end of December 2021 and stop manufacturing and selling the rolls around the end of December 2022.
The company will provide separate information on after-sales service for products supplied to customers.
3. Impact on Business Performance
Kubota is currently conducting detailed investigations into how this decision will impact the company’s business performance. In the event that a major impact is anticipated, announcements will be issued promptly once the details are confirmed.
