SKTB Pile/KCTB Pile (Cast-in-Place Steel-Pipe-Concrete Pile)
In earthquake-prone Japan, where increased earthquake resistance of structures is more and more emphasized, foundations are also required to deliver increasingly higher aseismic performance.
SKTB piles and KCTB piles are composite piles, combining a cast-in-place concrete pile and an inner-ribbed steel pipe, which are widely used for construction foundations in locations that are subject to huge lateral forces during earthquakes, and for foundations in soft ground and that which is prone to liquefaction.
Applications
- Building foundations
Advantages
- Strong Adhesion with Concrete
- The ribs on the inner surface of the steel pipe dramatically strengthen adhesion of concrete to the pipe.
- Reasonable Dynamic Characteristics
- An integral structure consisting of a steel pipe and concrete has an adequate resisting bending moment without a need to enlarge the pile head. These piles have a high safety against earthquakes due to their high toughness.
- Superior Cost Performance
- These piles deliver superior cost performance because it is possible to optimize pile designs by varying the steel pipe diameter, thickness, and material.
- Negative Skin Friction Control is Optional
- Negative skin friction control through provision of a slip layer on the steel pipe is available as an option (SKTB-SL pile).
